We’ve covered previous editions of the Parallax Art Fair – or rather, the non-art fair – on this blog, and news reaches us that the next\u00a0instalment\u00a0will be returning to Chelsea Town Hall once again, taking place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June. This time round, Parallax will feature over 100 international artists – some from as far afield as Ethiopia, Mexico, Australia, Japan and Turkey – and over 2000 pieces, and entry will once again be free.<\/p>\n

“NoBody Care About Life II” Bjorn Sjoling<\/p><\/div>\n

One of the most unusual and eclectic pieces to be shown at Parallax this time around – or indeed, perhaps at any previous event – is a full-size skeleton with foetus (shown above) by Dorset artist Bjorn Sjoling, part of a series of hand-crafted skeletons that the artist refers to as “NoBodys”. Taking him a full year to complete the project, often slaving away in the hours after his full time job, Sjoling used x-rays, anatomy books and real bones to help him mould, shape and polish all of the 208 bones that make up a skeleton, before casting them and assembling them into human form. What was the artist’s rationale behind this project? He says:<\/p>\n

“For whatever reason, my mind thrives on the challenge of understanding intricate detail. I am driven to represent that beauty in sculptural form. My ambition as an artist is to share the wonders of the world we live in by revealing the often overlooked examples of harmony and complexity which are around us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Some of the other artworks on display at Parallax are Stephen Nelson\u2019s vispo works (shown below); SP Prescott\u2019s deconstructed ‘paintings’; Kate Hopkins-Searle\u2019s ceramic wearable objects; Zerihun Seyoum\u2019s Ethiopian scenes; and Jack Sawbridge\u2019s interactive glass vessels, which measure the deteriorating flexibility of a ballet dancer\u2019s joints.<\/p>\n
