Introduced by Dame Felicity Lott, South Kensington’s\u00a0Institut fran\u00e7ais is this month hosting the classical music concert\u00a0L’amour \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise Part 1: J\u2019irai conter fleurette…<\/em> (an\u00a0idiom from old French meaning to court someone<\/em>) that will feature songs with the themes of love and the countryside in the 19th century.<\/p>\n

Singers from the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Academy Opera will be performing works by\u00a0Gounod, Berlioz, Massenet, Godard, Lalo, Chabrier, Delibes, Chausson, Saint-Sa\u00ebns and Bizet (full programme details below) at the concert on Tuesday 29th November.<\/p>\n

Performing on the night are S\u00f3nia Gran\u00e9\u00a0(soprano),\u00a0Kerri-lynne Dietz (mezzo soprano),\u00a0Oliver Johnston (tenor),\u00a0Samuel Pantcheff\u00a0(baritone),\u00a0Edwige Herchenroder\u00a0(piano).<\/p>\n

The Royal Academy of Music was founded in 1822 and since then has had a vast impact on musical life both in the UK and abroad. Each year, musicians from over fifty countries come and study at the Academy, under the tutelage of its esteemed teaching staff. Students often participate in the Academy’s unrivalled calendar of musical events, where they regularly work with leading practitioners.<\/p>\n

English soprano Felicity Lott will be introducing the evening; she has performed at all of the great opera houses around the world, and worked with some of the best conductors (including Andrew Davis, Antonio Pappano and Simon Rattle).<\/p>\n
