Those looking to improve their artistic skills may be interested to hear of these life drawing classes for adults at the GEMS Hampshire School in Chelsea – and now’s the perfect time to sign up for the Spring Term.

Run by Anna Clare Lees-Buckley, the 8-weekly life class runs on Manresa Road, in Chelsea, alongside the scholarly term. A maximum of ten students can enrol per term, allowing constant one-to-one teaching. A selection of books are always available to look at, and students are encouraged to use them, applying the techniques or poses to their own drawings, whilst working from a nude model.

Anna Clare, after winning the Art Scholarship at Stowe School, continued her studies abroad. In search of a more academic and rigorous approach to drawing and painting than seemed to be available in England, she enrolled at the atelier Charles H Cecil Studios in Florence. During four years there, she practised the tradition of sight-size, which is thought to date back to the Renaissance. In more recent times John Singer Sargent used the technique in his portraiture. 1. Ubfortunately I was only able to attend one of Anna Clare’s classes but I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable and informative 2 hours I have spent for a long time. I would thoroughly recommed anyone of any ability to join the class and take advantage of her expert tuition. She made us all feel very relaxed and was always willing and available to give advise. Thank you Anna Clare.

  2. Anna Clare is a patient, thorough and knowledgable tutor. I have only been able to attend one class but in that time I genuinely felt that I could gain skills that previously I would have never thought I could learn. And it’s good fun! Very relaxed…and she brings cookies 🙂

  3. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Having never done anything like this before (and not considering myself particularly artistic) Anna Clare was able to help me and the more advanced students very effectively.
It’s a great way to unwind.. whilst also learning new skills!
    Thanks Anna Clare.
