Parallax Art Fair returns to Chelsea this October

The Parallax Art Fair returns to the Chelsea Old Town Hall next month – on the 13th and 14th October – featuring over 200 assorted international artists and welcoming those from Syria, Oman, Pakistan, India, Brazil and Nigeria for the first time.

The world’s largest curated international artist fair, Parallax aims to ensure that both established and emerging artists are equally represented – which sees work exhibited that is extremely diverse, both culturally and artistically. At the heart of the Fair is the practical exploration that new ideas are developed within art history, whilst Parallax’s ‘no superiority’ philosophy makes a statement about the problems concerning knowledge acquisition and objects designated as contemporary art.

Some of the highlighted artists at next month’s Fair include Adib Fattal from Syria whose vibrant, full-of-character and somewhat fairy-tale-like paintings depict scenes of naive happiness and content, which are contradictory to the struggles and efforts to re-establish relations between the West and Syria in the current day.

UK artist Alex Dipple generates graphic-like work using copies of The Evening Standard newspaper, cutting off the consumable information and replacing it with recurring lines that form puzzles in your mind.

Another artist that will be highlighted at the Fair is Faiza Khan from Pakistan, who explores the idea of being a woman in the Islamic state of Pakistan.

Art historian Dr Chris Barlow, who is producing and curating the Parallax Art Fair, says:

“We are very excited to welcome new, fresh artistic discoveries and showcase the very best of contemporary art from artists who rarely have the chance for international exposure.”

Entry to the Fair is free, although donations on the door go towards the PAF Benevolent Fund for the children of artists.

  1. I participated with two sculptures at the Parallax Art Fair L ondon in October 2012, Exhibition Manager was Mr. Kyle Gregg. Today the carrier had to pick up the artworks and bring them back to Romania, but from October 17 we can not contact Mr. Kyke Gregg no on telephone or on email. Both, me and the carrier, tried for two days to contact Mr. Kyle Gregg calling on the phone, sending written and voice message and sending e- mail messages, but we have not received any response. So, now, I am unable to pick up my artworks.
    This means:
    1. Either they want to collect from me some more money from storage fee, called “weekly rental amount” of 100 GBP per week for each artwork,
    2. Either they want to take free the two artwork worth 2.800 GBP, by refusing any contact with me until the two weeks storage period will expire and the sculptures will be at discresion of Barlow Fine Art Ltd London.
Warning for those who want to participate at the Parallax Art Fair.

    1. After many insistence, a month after the publication of my posting of 19 October, the sculptures have finally arrived home in good condition. Eventually, my fears about the provisions of the Fair handbook were not averred. The participation at Parallax Art Fair London October 2012 remains however a disappointment. Besides extremely difficult recovery of the artwork, my disappointment is related also to other aspects of the fair, such as the aberrantly exposure mode of my sculptures, the fair organizers attitude – related to the absence of assuming responsibility and lack of expressing any sorrow for all what happened.
